  • The Kenya Biotechnology Information Centre (KEBIC) is not-for-profit entity dedicated to building public understanding about biotechnology applications, use and its products.

  • In the past five years, with its various outreach programmes and a broad spectrum of target audience, KEBIC has positioned itself as the national biotechnology communication, education and information outreach source in Kenya.

  • KEBIC organizes a variety of activities targeted at specific stakeholders in and around Kenya to promote mutual understanding; engage the participation of the public, policy makers; inspire the next generation to understand the potential opportunities and constraints especially in Agricultural Biotechnology in responding to the challenges of poverty, food insecurity and nutritional needs in harsh and changing climates not conducive for normal agricultural activities and sustainable livelihoods.

  • With strong linkages and collaboration amongst universities, R&D institutions, industries, international and local NGOs, IGOs, MDBs and government agencies to provide support. KEBIC focus will be on creating and enhancing public awareness about biotechnology applications with the aim of achieving a well informed and knowledgeable society that can make informed decisions on the use of biotechnology and its products.


    Tanzania Plants First GM Maize Field Trial

    The first genetically modified (GM) maize research
    trials have been planted on October 5, 2016 in Tanzania's
    Dodoma region, a semi-arid area in the central part of the country.
